These are powerful stories that define Tasmania's migrant history. There were turbulent years in the migrant's lives as the storm clouds of Europe after WWII left European countries in ashes and ruin. People mourned for their lost families and children who had been sent away. Many left behind European war-torn cities, captures and escapes, forced marches, work camps and underground dangers. For some there was no turning back.

Echoes on the Mountain
Ten gripping tales of the migrant workers who brought the Tasmanian highlands to life in all it's post-war uniqueness. They came from the ashes of Europe, some had fought side by side with Australians at Tobruk, some had endured forced labour camps under the Germans and then the Soviets, all had suffered the horrors of war.
EXILED TO THE COLONIES 1835
The 'hungry thirties' of the 1800's were desperate times of hopeless poverty and unemployment in Britain. Mechanisation of farms and factories had cast thousands out of work. The farm workers rallied behind 'Captain Swing', a mythical figurehead who urged them to protest by smashing machines and burning crops.
